Meillionen halt
One of the most wonderful aspects of Beddgelert Campsite is that it's one of the stops for the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway. A unique way to see the Snowdonia scenery
The Meillionen stop at Beddgelert campsite is a short walk from your pitch and we recommend dedicating some time to taking this journey back in time. Timetables are available at the station or near to reception.
Take a trip to Caernarfon taking in the breath-taking UNESCO Slate Landscape or venture to Porthmadog through the Aberglaslyn Pass.
Children under 16 years go free with every full paying adult, dogs and bikes are also welcome.
The Harbourmaster
The Harbourmaster is a full day out from Porthmadog. It picks up at Beddgelert & Meillionen, then travels to the coast from the foothills of Snowdon to its destination beside the harbour and castle at Caernarfon.
Starting its journey from the quaint village of Beddgelert, ‘The Harbourmaster’ steams uphill towards Meillionen halt before climbing the forested hillside and onto the foothills of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).
Passing the summit of the line (‘Y Copa’ in Welsh) it starts its descent towards the harbour and quayside at Caernarfon – passing small hill farms, running alongside Llyn (Lake) Cwellyn and following the Afon (River) Gwyrfai to reach its destination, the Welsh Highland Railway’s impressive station building beside Caernarfon Castle.
Modern carriages give excellent views from every window. The option to pre-book a picnic hamper service is available to enhance your trip.
On arrival at Caernarfon, there is time to explore this historic town – with its narrow streets, small shops and market square – during the approximately 1.5 hour break before the train heads back towards Beddgelert.
Drinks and light snacks are able to be purchased in our Forest Retreat prior to travel along with some drinks and snacks available for purchase on board.

History of Meillionen
The station was purposely built to serve the original campsite that stood on the location since the 1950’s. Construction of the station started in 2006 and a waiting shelter was built in April 2009.
The name Meillionen derives from the Afon Meillionen (Clover River) which runs under the railway just north of the campsite. Before completion, it was to be called Beddgelert Forest Halt but was renamed to comply with the company's policy of naming WHR halts in Welsh. After completion the halt's running in board, however, did have the sub-title Forest Camp Site. This subsequently changed in April 2018 and now displays the main title Meillionen only.
Despite this, the halt is still often referred to as the campsite, especially because Meillionen isn't the easiest word for English speaking passengers to say when requesting the train stop.
